Janet Lord is an international disability rights lawyer with more than 15 years of experience working on disability in the context of international development. She holds law degrees from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and the George Washington University Law School. An internationally recognized expert on human rights and disability, Lord participated in all of the negotiations for the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. She regularly consults with governments, inter-governmental organizations, national human rights institutions and civil society organizations on disability law, policy and practices and has worked in more than 30 countries worldwide. She advises UN bodies and international organizations on human rights in the context of inclusive development. Lord’s scholarship and practice-oriented work has been published globally and widely disseminated. She has taught international law and human rights at several institutions and is currently teaching at American University, Washington College of Law and at the University of Maryland, Carey School of Law. Her work has been recognized by various bodies and she serves on a variety of non profit boards and editorial committees. She is currently serving as director on the boards of Amnesty International USA and the US International Council on Disabilities.
