Kyra Buchko serves as Senior Technical Director for New-Rule. She is also the Executive Director of Butterflies-USA, a not-for-profit organization focused on protection and empowerment of street and working children in South Asia. Ms. Buchko leads advocacy, education and fundraising activities in the US, as well as capacity building and support for New Delhi-based Butterflies and other children’s rights groups in the region.
Ms. Buchko began her legal career working for top-shelf private law firms on international matters. Following the fall of the Berlin Wall, she was one of the initial directors of the American Bar Association’s overseas programming. Ms. Buchko has spent the last two decades working on rule of law and human rights in the former Soviet Union and Asia. With the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), she recently served as Senior Advisor to the Bangladesh National Human Rights Commission, and previously, she was lead editor for Pursuing the Public Interest: A Handbook for Legal Professionals and Activists. In 2010, she completed an Executive Certificate of Global Communications at the Thunderbird School of Global Management, Arizona, reflecting the strong cross-cultural competency she has integrated with established legal credentials.
