New-Rule designed and delivered a 12 module course on Applied Human Rights Documentation in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The course utilized a case study and participatory approach with participants to: a) improve their effectiveness in official regional and international mechanisms for the protection of human rights, such as the United Nations Human Rights Systems; and b) better engage with nongovernmental organizations, platforms, and networks conducting international advocacy for human rights. During the course, New-Rule provided coaching and mentorship that focused on the administrative, legal, and practical challenges and opportunities to access these systems, in addition to the different tools and mechanisms to participate and engage effectively, including the presentation of cases, elaboration of shadow reports, participation in sessions and ad hoc meetings, and submission of consultative opinions.
