Dr. Molly Inman, New-Rule Senior Advisor, teaches graduate school at Georgetown University, and this semester her course-load includes Conflict Resolution Policy. On January 31, 2019, New-Rule Principal Scott Carlson joined his longtime colleague, Robert Pulver, acting Deputy Special Representative for the Secretary General at UNMIK in Kosovo, to discuss the relationship of rule of law and peacekeeping with Dr. Inman’s class. The discussion reviewed the evolution of UN peacekeeping mandates and examined how rule of law has been increasingly integrated to UN activities, highlighting how the absence of rule of law is frequently a driver of conflict. As part of the discussion, the class created a word cloud that tagged justice and accountability as key concepts underlying the intersection of rule of law and peacekeeping.
